Geneviève Garrigos

Genevieve Garrigos is an elected member of Paris City council, representative of the 20th arrondissement and a well-known member of civil society.

Amongst other responsibilities, she chairs the City Council commission responsible in particular for international relations with a focus on human rights and democracy. As deputy mayor of the 20th arrondissement, she leads antidiscrimination plans and LGBTQIA+ rights and visibility.  

She acquired extensive international experience within Amnesty International France (AIF) and served as President of AIF from 2008 to 2016, undertaking missions to Venezuela, Mexico, the occupied Palestinian territories, Tunisia, Guinea and Burkina Faso. She joined AIF's volunteer team in 2002 to manage Latin American human rights defenders before taking up the position of Head of Programmes for the Americas in 2005. She has actively lobbied for the protection and release of human rights defenders in the Americas and worldwide.

As a member of the National Consultative Commission on Human Rights (2009-2020), she was also Vice-Chair of the sub-committee on ‘National Issues’ of this Commission, where she has closely assessed issues relating to the respect of rule of law in the context of antiterrorism law, freedom of expression, human trafficking, immigration, and rights of LGBTQIA+ people.

She has co-founded various NGOs and is a member of the board of the Maison des Journalistes for refugee journalists.

She is a recipient of the Légion d'honneur.
