United Arab Emirates - October 2025

Government introduces AI policy for electoral campaigns
Watch flag

On 24 October, the UAE government introduced a National Elections Committee policy regulating the use of artificial intelligence in national election campaigns. The policy requires candidates for the Federal National Council (FNC) to disclose and register AI tools used in their campaigns, bringing their use under electoral oversight. According to the government, the measures aim to promote transparency and mitigate AI-related electoral risks, including the creation and dissemination of misleading or fabricated content targeting candidates or voters, impersonation and other forms of manipulation. With the next FNC elections expected to be held by October 2027, it will be important to monitor how the policy is implemented in practice, including how authorities address AI-generated content targeting candidates or influencing voters, and whether the regulatory framework is applied impartially or could be used to restrict legitimate political expression.
