Kosovo - April 2026
Court convicts three over Banjska terrorism attack
On 24 April 2026, the Prishtina Basic Court convicted three individuals of terrorism and ‘serious acts against the constitutional order and security of Kosovo,’ sentencing them to prison terms ranging from 30 years to life imprisonment. The convictions relate to their roles in the 2023 Banjska attack, in which a Serbian‑backed armed group entered Kosovo in an organized operation with heavy weapons, military equipment, and armoured vehicles, clashing with Kosovo Police and killing one officer. The group was reportedly aiming to support a secessionist movement. The ruling demonstrated the judiciary’s capacity to address high-profile and politically sensitive cases. On 27 April the same court sentenced an OSCE Mission staff member to six years in prison for espionage after finding she had supplied Serbia’s intelligence agency with sensitive information obtained through her official duties.
