Parliament approves partial cabinet after months of political deadlock

On 14 May, Parliament approved the cabinet proposed by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, ending more than five months of negotiations following the November 2025 parliamentary elections. Of the 24 ministers nominated, 15 were approved, while nine cabinet positions remain vacant. Political parties are expected to continue negotiations in the coming months to fill the remaining posts, which include portfolios such as the Interior and Defense ministries.
