On 30 November, Honduras held general elections to choose the president, members of Congress, representatives to the Central American Parliament, as well as mayors and other local authorities. Final results are still pending as the National Electoral Council (CNE) continues counting votes. By 12 December, Nasry Asfura of the National Party leads in the presidential race with 40.5 per cent of the vote, followed closely by Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party with 39.2 per cent. Of the five presidential candidates, only one was a woman (Rixi Moncada), and women accounted for less than one-third of all registered candidacies in the general election.

Congressional vote counting also remains incomplete. Technical issues with the vote-processing system, allegations of inconsistencies in voter records, and claims of fraud by some candidates and parties have contributed to delays in the process.

Update: On 24 December, two out of the three CNE members announced that, with 40.2 per cent of the votes, Nasry Asfura was the winner of the presidential race. Salvador Nasralla came in second with 39.5 per cent of votes, and has contested the results, alleging irregularities and claiming that the results proclamation came before a recount had been finalized. The National Party won 38.0 per cent of seats in Congress, the Liberal Party won 32.0 per cent and the Liberty and Re-foundation Party (LIBRE) won 27.3 per cent. The Innovation and Social Democrat Union Party won two seats, and the Christian Democrat Party won one. Women will hold 38 seats in Congress (29.7 per cent of seats), three more seats compared to the previous composition.
