Haiti - November 2025
New electoral calendar launched and electoral law adopted
Haiti's provisional electoral council (CEP) unveiled a new electoral calendar, setting the first round of presidential and legislative elections for 30 August 2026, and the second round for 6 December. This represents a significant step toward resolving the extended political transition, as Haiti has been without elected legislative officials since January 2023. Despite this progress, concerns remain over ongoing gang violence, which could delay the elections, and mandate of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), which is set to end in February 2026. Moreover, the CPT adopted a long-awaited electoral law on 1 December, establishing the legal and political framework required to facilitate the upcoming elections. The electoral law defines voter eligibility (including diaspora participation), candidate requirements, gender quotas, the structure and recruitment of electoral bodies at national, departmental and municipal levels, and rules for campaign financing, voting, counting and results publication.
