Seventh Ibero-American Conference on Electoral Justice

June 29, 2015

International IDEA and the National Board of Elections of Peru are jointly organizing the Seventh Ibero-American Conference on Electoral Justice: “justice, integrity and quality of democracy”, which will be held between July 1-4 in Cuzco, Peru.

This is an institutional and academic forum to discuss, analyze and exchange experiences and knowledge, addressing exclusively issues related to electoral justice in which expert members of electoral organizations in charge of delivering electoral justice in the region are participating. Since 2009, within the framework of the Conference, relevant issues for the region have been analyzed and useful experiences for participating countries and institutions have been exchanged.

At this occasion, the persisting challenges met by the electoral tribunals will be addressed to ensure integrity during elections; as well as the rights to political participation without any kind of discrimination, in particular towards women and other vulnerable groups; intra-party democracy; financing and access to the media; and evidence assessment and procedural matters.

During this 7th CIJE, the Inter-American criteria on protection of political rights will be updated, and the International IDEA database will be presented, along with an annual report of the National Board of Elections on electoral justice and Latin American electoral jurisprudence. The Declaration of Cusco will also be signed at this event.

Electoral judges from most of the Ibero-American countries will participate in this Conference.
