Enhancing women's participation in electoral processes in post-conflict countries

19 January 2004

This paper is designed to sketch a general overview of existing knowledge and practice on enhancing women’s participation in electoral processes, and to identify the major questions which need to be addressed in the specific post-conflict context.

It seeks to range widely in raising issues which may affect the participation and representation of women in post-conflict electoral processes, some of which are well known, others less so. It does not seek to examine most of these issues in detail: that is the task of the country expert and thematic expert presentations which follow it.
