Fifth Edition of The Participation Festival in Bologna

The Fifth Edition of the Participation Festival will be three days of workshops, conferences and debates under the theme: 'Participation in the Risk Society'. The conference intends to engage international experts providing a forum to build and create new forms of democratic politics, participatory engagement and civic activism.

The Participation Festival is promoted by ActionAid Italia, Cittadinanzattiva, Legambiente,and UISP, in collaboration with Slow Food and the contribution of the Municipality of Bologna. The Festival will include a panel with the participation of Alberto Fernandez Gibaja on the topic of "Emergencies and Democracy: the relationship between overcoming the crisis and trust in political power".  The discussion will reflect on the effects that the COVID-19 pandemic has had and will have on governance and democratic institutions, with a particular focus on local and regional elections in Italy, the upcoming presidential election in the United States and the German elections as foreseen for 2021. 

The Participation Festival will take place in Bologna, Italy, from 16 to 18 October 2020 and this will be the first edition organized in a hybrid format, which provides for the complete digital participation as well as taking place in-person within the spaces of the Palazzo Comunale and the Foundation for Urban Innovation. The event will be live-streamed on the festivaldellapartecipazione.org website and Facebook page
