| Since 2000, SoD assessments have been undertaken in no less than 20 countries around the world. The first generation assessments (pilot assessments) were conducted in Bangladesh; El Salvador; Italy; Kenya; Malawi; New Zealand, South Korea and Peru. These countries represent different regions of the world—demonstrating SoD’s universal applicability. Since the framework is developed as a global public good it has been independently picked and applied by a diversity of actors around the world to assess the quality of their democracies. The second generation assessments have been conducted in Australia, Ireland, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Latvia; South Asia--covering, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka; Central Asia—covering-- Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and is also currently being undertaken in Mexico. If you have carried out an assessment in your country using International IDEA's framework and you are interested in making the assessment report available here, please send an email to sod@idea.int. The launch of the revised SoD methodology (Assessing the Quality of Democracy, 2008) will be the starting point for a third generation assessments as these assessments will be using the revised methodology.
