Chile is starting an “Assessment of Democracy for the Bicentenary”. This project will be carried out by a partnership of four different organizations: The Oslo Governance Centre of UNDP; UNDP Chile; the Government Secretariat of the Ministry of the Presidency of Chile; and International IDEA. Four Chilean Think Tanks will perform the assessment under UNDP Chile coordination. They are:
The project will enhance dialogue with the Chilean civil society and political parties and provide tools for the project’s long-term sustainability. Likewise, the project is expected to strengthen government accountability on key governance areas.
The assessment is a good opportunity to contribute to the broader process of reflection and evaluation underway in Chile in line with the preparations of the Bicentennial celebration in 2010. The project will make the knowledge and information gathered available for policy makers, social and political actors, and citizens at large by creating an electronic database that can be easily accessed for present and current evaluations.
