International IDEA takes a holistic approach to supporting democracy building in Africa, contributing across all areas of its mandate – elections, constitution building, political parties and representation, citizen led assessments of democracy, and democracy and development. Read more

the Caribbean

International IDEA works with democratic institutions throughout the region to increase the effectiveness and legitimacy of democracy, focusing on electoral reforms and supporting gender equality in politics. Read more

West Asia and
North Africa

International IDEA has worked with Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Yemen, and developed a project with local partners that assessed the state of democracy at the local level.

Asia and the Pacific

International IDEA has a substantive country programme in Nepal. In 2009, IDEA decided to take a broader view and launched a programme marking a consolidation of IDEA's work throughout the region. Read more

United NationsThe Office of the Permanent Observer for International IDEA to the United Nations promotes multilateral dialogue and UN policies that advance democracy-building efforts worldwide, and develops partnerships with UN agencies and programmes.

The Inter-Regional Democracy Resource Centre is the Secretariat of the Inter-Regional Dialogue on Democracy. It is also a virtual resource centre for democracy at the regional and inter-regional level.

International IDEA works with democracy practitioners and institutions in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Arab world.
