Internal Training of Trainers about International IDEA Interparty Dialogue Skills Module

Date
17 May 2017 - 18 May 2017
Location
Kigali, Rwanda
Outside NFPO in Kigali, Rwanda

International IDEA’s Global Programme (Political Participation and Representation Processes Team) will implement an internal training of trainers for its Interparty Dialogue Skills Module from 17-18 May 2017 in Kigali, Rwanda. Participants will be International IDEA staff from Haiti, Nepal, and Africa and West Africa (AWA) Regional Programme, as well as staff of partner organizations -namely, the National Consultative Forum of Political Organizations in Rwanda (NFPO) and PYPA Program a Swedish Multiparty political academy - (its staff are from Zambia and Uganda).

The objective of this training is to expand International IDEA & partner Organizations' capacities to implement the module in the field, as well as discuss how best to strengthen institutional  programming in the area of interparty dialogue generally.

Consistent with its mission, International IDEA strives to ensure that democratic reforms are inclusive, participatory and reflect political and social diversities. Dialogue is thus an enabler and is embedded in all International IDEA’s Key Impact Areas (KIA) as an approach to engaging partners and to facilitate democratic reform processes at country level. The recent institutional strategy evaluation report highlighted among other things that "International IDEA’s convocation of dialogue is often seen as relevant, both at the local and the global level…it is easier to ascertain that International IDEA has indeed promoted political dialogue on democratic change, as there are examples of International IDEA acting as a convener in this regard at the national level, such as in Africa and Asia for instance".

International IDEA Regional Programmes, in particular the Africa and West Asia, Asia & the Pacific and Haiti have expressed high interest in further promoting interparty dialogues at country level in their respective programmes whether in relation to peace building, legal reforms or socio-economic reform processes. Similarly, strategic partner organizations and programmes such as PYPA and NFPO have expressed interest to collaborate with International IDEA in this area of interparty dialogue, including on topics related to enhancement of women and youth participation within political parties.

This Training will be co-facilitated by Frank Kayitare, Programme Officer, Political Parties and Ms. Njeri Kabeberi, a member of International IDEA Board of Advisors. It was organized in Kigali to allow International IDEA staff from various regions to also participate in a Summer School for Youth Cadres within political parties, which will also take place in Kigali from 19-21 May 2017 and International IDEA’s Youth Democracy Curriculum will be implemented.
