Minister for Law, Justice and Constituent Assembly Affairs, Dev Guring, said that the book would contribute to the process of constitutional development in Nepal by providing sought after information and different options to Constituent Assembly members. His comments were echoed by Member of Constituent Assembly, Sapana Malla Pradhan, and also one of the contributors to the book, who said the book “will be a good guidebook for all the researchers, CA members and political cadres.” She also argued that it will also provide a useful basis for ensuring a “gender just” constitution.

In her address, Leena Rikkilä Tamang, Head of Mission of International IDEA in Nepal, said that the book has been written for anyone interested in the constitution making process in Nepal, “The underlying ethos of the book is that constitution making belongs to everyone in Nepal, all the Nepali citizens.”

The book is edited by Jill Cottrell and Yash Ghai and it is the outcome of the collaboration between a group of Nepali scholars.

The book will be available in Nepali by the end of December 2008.
