Peru honours IDEA’s director for Latin America for his work to re-establish democracy in Peru

The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs awarded Daniel Zovatto, IDEA regional director for Latin America the Order of Merit to Diplomatic Service “Jose Gregorio Paz Soldan”, Grand Cross class.

The honour, named after of one of the most illustrious Peruvian jurists and diplomats, acknowledges Zovatto’s outstanding performance and contribution to defending and protecting human rights, as well as for his commitment to democratic institutions and democratic principles.

During the ceremony on 28 April in Lima, Vice-Chancellor Harold Forsyth thanked Zovatto on behalf of the Peruvian and emphasized that Zovatto has shown a relentless commitment to democratic institutions in Peru.

“I will bear this award with pride. It strengthens my firm and resolute commitment to continue working for the total respect of human rights and the strengthening of democracy”, said Zovatto.
