24-27 June 2007: Political Party Training Workshop Internal Democracy and Inclusion (women, youth & minorities) in Political Parties

The 4th of the project’s training workshops was organised on the theme of “Internal Democracy and Inclusion (women, youth & minorities) in Political Parties” and was held over a three day period from 24-27 June 2007. It was attended by 30 participants, five from each of the 6 participating political parties.

The workshop was facilitated by the following experts:

  • Ms Rita Taphorn, Programme Officer, Gender IDEA
  • Dr Atta El-Battahani, Sudan project Manager, IDEA
  • Dr. Mohamed Ahemd Salim, Registrar of Political Parties and Organizations

The workshop provided a platform for parties to discuss issues pertaining to their internal democracy, inclusion and representation of women, youth and minorities. The workshop looked specifically into the following issues: candidate selections, leadership selection, policy making, membership relations, Gender representation, Youth representation, Minorities representation, Party funding, Party External/International Relations, Case studies on internal democracy from Malawi, Jordan and Nepal and Internal Democracy a view from Sudan.
