The project in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, University of Khartoum organized a one-day workshop on “Elections Systems: Challenges and Choices” on 28 June 2007, in Sharja Hall, University of Khartoum. The workshop was attended by representatives of political parties, media, civil society, academia and students. Emad Yousef, International IDEA made a presentation on elections systems design – pros and cons of various systems and the criteria for designing electoral systems. Rita Taphorn, International IDEA, made a presentation on the use of quotas to increase the political representation for women, the different types of quota systems and how quotas relate to and are shaped by the electoral system.
