The first took place in October 2009 and brought 20 representatives from ten countries to Pretoria as part of International IDEA’s engagement with the African Union on electoral and democracy assistance. Both the Democracy and Electoral Assistance Unit of the African Union and the Electoral Institute of Southern Africa (EISA) also sent participants.

Then at the end of November 2009, a further BRIDGE TtF programme was also held in Pretoria for another 19 participants from 14 nations including Nepal and Macedonia.

BRIDGE’s reputation as the world’s leading curriculum on election processes is fast spreading throughout the electoral world, as shown in the high number of requests the BRIDGE partners receive each year for people to attend BRIDGE courses and to become accredited as BRIDGE facilitators.

Previous BRIDGE training organized by International IDEA took place in Ghana in June.
