Experience:
Before joining International IDEA, Camino worked with the United Nations Peace Keeping Operation in Burundi (ONUB), first as Rule of Law and Civil Affairs Officer and subsequently as Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff (2004-2006). Prior to that she was seconded as Rule of Law and Human Righs Adviser by the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) to the Government’s of Honduras (2004), Cambodia (2003-2004) and Guatemala (2002-2003). She worked as a Human Rights Observer with the United Nations Verification Mission in Guatemala (MINUGUA) from 1998-2001. Camino has participated in electoral observation misisons to Bosnia-Herzegovina (1997) and has participated in the monitoring of the electoral processes in Guatemala (1999) and Burundi (2005). She has carried out internships with the European Parliament (1996) and the European Commission (1997) and has worked as a free-lance translator and interpreter for press agencies; human rights organisations; and the private sector.
Education:
Camino is currently pursuing post-graduate studies with the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. She holds a Master’s in Human Rights and Democratisation (2002, E.MA Programme – Venice, Italy and University of Essex, UK); and a Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting with major in European Politics and International Institutions (1995, Université de Mons-Hainaut, Mons, Belgium).
Camino also has earned Diplomas and Certificates in Contemporary Political Theory (2005, University of Massachussets On-Line); Conflict Prevention and Resolution (2005); International Political Economy (University of Oxford); General Psychology with UC-Berkeley.
