International IDEA is holding a seminar on Making Democracy Assistance Effective at the Parliament of Belgium on 29 January 2008.
Effective democracy assistance includes several key aspects such as effective electoral assistance and political party support, areas on which International IDEA has built up extensive knowledge resources. This seminar is a part of International IDEA’s outreach work to share these resources with those who might have use of it – as policymakers, election observers or representatives of donor countries.
Today, democracy assistance meets several new challenges, not least calls for increased efficiency and accountability from policymaker’s home constituencies as well as from the political societies in partner countries. New structures and methods are needed for the democracy building community to adapt to a changing reality. This includes an altered focus from events to process support.
