Education: Dr Scherf studied Law and Social Sciences at Freiburg, Berlin and Hamburg, receiving his Doctor of Law degree in Hamburg.
Current and Previous Positions: Dr Scherf is currently President of the Senate and Mayor of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. Previously he has served as a Member of the Senate of Bremen; as a Member of Bremische Bürgerschaft, the Parliament of Bremen; as Chairman of the Social Democratic Party in the City State of Bremen; as a Member of the Federal Board of the Social Democratic Party; as a lawyer with the government of Lower Saxony; as in-house lawyer with the Senate for Internal Affairs, Bremen; and as Public Prosecutor in Bremen.
