Education: Holds a BA in Political Science and History from the University of Calgary and an MA in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Alberta, Canada.
Current and Previous Positions: Ambassador Legwaila currently serves as Special Representative to lead the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea, in which capacity he is based in Asmara. He has previously served as President of the United Nations Security Council; as a member of the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty; as Chairman of a United Nations Security Council mission to Western Sahara, Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania; as Special Envoy of the Chairman of the Frontline States to Lesotho; and as Vice President of the 46th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He has also served as Ambassador to Cuba, High Commissioner to Jamaica, High Commissioner to Guyana, and Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
