Name: Mónica Jiménez de Barros (Chile)

Education: Degree in Social Work from the Catholic University of Chile and a Masters Degree in Social Work Education from the Catholic University of America, Washington DC
Current and Previous Positions: Mrs. Jiménez de Barros has been a leading figure on the social worker scene in Chile and internationally for many years. She served as Assistant Director and subsequently as Director of the School of Social Work of the Catholic University for 10 years and was chairperson of the Academicians Association of the Catholic University and a member of the Higher Council for four years. For five years she was a member of the Pontifical Council on Peace and Justice based at the Vatican. She also was member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Chile. She has acted as a consultant to various international organizations including the UN (FAO), the Ford Foundation, the Inter-American Foundation, the Institute for Human Rights, UNDP, UNICEF and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems. She was Founder and Executive Director of PARTICIPA for 13 years, an organization dedicated to strengthening democracy, and is now Executive Director of Corporación APRENDER. She is also member of the Citizen Council, created to formulate public policy that strengthens civil society. She is member of the board of Fundación Paz Ciudadana, organization that designs public policies in citizen security.
Publications: Mrs. Jimémez de Barros is the author of many articles published in Chilean and international journals. She is also co-author of five books, Operational Methodology of the Social Work, Local Development, Social Participation, Beyond Government: extending the public policy debate in emerging democracies, and Inter-American Conference on Electoral Systems.
