Current and Previous Positions: Cheryl Saunders is an Australian constitutional lawyer, based at the University of Melbourne, where she holds a personal chair in law. She works in the areas of constitution-making and design, federalism, intergovernmental relations and comparative constitutional law, on which she has written and lectured widely. She has practical experience in advising on both the process and outcomes of constitution-making in various parts of the world, in both federal and unitary states. She is a President Emeritus of the International Association of Constitutional Law, President of the International Association of Centres for Federal Studies and Honorary President of the African Network of Constitutional Law. She has held visiting positions at the universities of Cambridge, Paris II, Indiana (Bloomington), Hong Kong, Copenhagen, Fribourg, Capetown and Auckland and has an honorary doctorate from the University of Cordoba, Argentina. In 1994 she was appointed an officer in the Order of Australia, for services to the law and to public administration.
