Education: Annie holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Bergen in Norway.
Current and Previous Positions: Dr. Annie Barbara Chikwanha is currently a Senior Research Fellow in the Institute for Security Studies and heads the African Human Security Initiative (AHSI) project at the institute’s Nairobi offices. AHSI is currently reviewing the criminal justice systems in five African countries that are scheduled to undergo the African Peer Review process. The project also works on conflict and peace in the region as well as measuring public attitudes to crime and policing. Annie previously worked as a key researcher with the Afrobarometer Network from 1999 until 2006 and was an Associate Director by the time she left at the end of 2006. Her work with the Afrobarometer centred on measuring attitudes to democracy and governance in 18 African countries. She has worked on democracy and governance and published on these areas since she was with the University of Zimbabwe (1995-2000).
